Located on the southern coastline, within the Bay of Palma, Ca’n Pastilla is only five miles south east of the city of Palma itself. The area is made up of nothing more than a slim principal street with an unremarkable central Cathedral, next to a charming little harbour. The resort is significantly inferior to those further afield. It features a strong British expatriated flavour and is probably best suited to people that want sun and sea along with a taste of home. It has about forty hotels, mostly in the lower to middle budget, with very few above a three star rating.
Ca’n Pastilla is really much more a laid back and stress-free holiday destination than its close neighbour Playa de Palma. The town matured from the nineteen sixties with the tourist boom, and the majority of the complexes and establishments date from that time. The harbour to one side can be a safe sanctuary for private yachts and pleasure boats.
The beaches provide the primary appeal to the area and there’s a good selection. They may be somewhat scruffy but there is however a protected alternative within the harbour itself, furnished with pedalloes. The greater, synthetically expanded beach beside the marina boasts a large climbing structure and trampoline ideal for children.
Towards the rear of the beachfront you will discover a traffic free seaside promenade that extends all the way to El’Arenal, and throughout the promenade you will see a good choice of bars, restaurants, cafes and tourist shops. You’ll also be able to park here free of charge, typically parking within just 200 metres from the beach.
Travelling around the area is relatively simple. Buses frequently go to both El Arenal and Palma, with numerous stops along the main road. A tourist train operates across the sea front, with services to El Arenal, and low-cost taxi cabs are around every corner.
